Abstract
Purpose: This study was the effect of aberrations and contrast sensitivity due to the amount of astigmatism on vision.
Methods: 44 patients (males: 29, females: 15) of the mean age 21.0(¡¾1.2) years without ocular disease were examined. The aberration was measured with a Wave-Front Analyzer KR-1W(TOPCON) instrument and the contrast sensitivity was measured with a Contrast Sensitivity Chart (HDC-9000N/PF, Huvitz).

Results: High-order aberrations showed a significant difference with increasing astigmatism, and were not significantly different by differences of astigmatism axis. Contrast sensitivity was a significantly different according to the amount of astigmatism but it was not significant according to the astigmatism axis. Contrast sensitivity in astigmatism correction also was significantly different between spherical equivalent(S.E) correction and correction by cylinder lenses. Contrast sensitivity in same spatial frequency was also significantly different between SE correction and correction by cylinder lenses.

Conclusions: The contrast sensitivity was affected by the amount of astigmatism and the astigmatic correction method. The contrast sensitivity was not influenced by the astigmatism axis. And it needs to improve the quality of vision by raising the contrast sensitivity with accurate astigmatism correction.
